The Winchester Metropolitan Statistical Area should continue to have positive growth for the rest of the year and into 2007, according to the second quarter 2006 report of Virginia Economic Trends by Chumra Economics and Analytics. The 2007 report forecasts a 2.2 percent employment increase, a 6.6 percent bump up in retail sales, a 6 percent wage spike, and a 8.5 percent hike in building permits. In the 12-month period ending in March, the Winchester MSA had the second- highest employment growth among the state’s metro areas — 4.8 percent, or the equivalent of 2,600 jobs. In the year ending in the third quarter of 2005, the area had a 17.3 percent increase in high-tech employment, which is four times greater than the state average of 3.8 percent.
The Winchester Frederick Regional Chamber is holding a kickoff party today for its Young Professionals Group, a networking organization for professionals aged 21-40 throughout the region.

TOWSON, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 2006--AmericasBank Corp. (Nasdaq:AMAB), the parent company of AmericasBank today announced financial results for the second quarter and six months ending June 30, 2006, which included a profitable current quarter, continuing improvement in operations and growth in its loan portfolio and net interest margins.
Net income for the second quarter was $8,952, as compared with a net loss of $(151,470) for the second quarter of 2005. For the first half of 2006, the company reported a net loss of $(204,723), compared with a net loss of $(303,977) for the first half of last year.
On a sequential basis, net interest income increased 32.0% to $805,400 for the three months ended June 30, 2006 from $610,000 for the three months ended March 31, 2006, as the company's net interest margin increased to 4.22% from 3.51%.
